Frequently Asked Questions

When do I need to file my self-assessment tax return?
Paper returns are due by 31 October; online returns and any tax due are due by 31 January following the end of the tax year. Late filing triggers an automatic £100 penalty and further fines stack up quickly.
How much does a self-assessment tax return cost?
For a straightforward return — employment, savings and a single rental — fees usually start from around £250. More complex returns (multiple rentals, foreign income, capital gains, partnerships) are quoted on a case-by-case basis. Pricing is always agreed upfront.
I've received a letter from HMRC opening an enquiry. Can you help?
Yes — we represent clients in HMRC enquiries, voluntary disclosures and dispute work. We handle the correspondence and meetings so you don't have to, and we'll give you a realistic picture of what to expect from day one.
Do I need to report cryptocurrency on my tax return?
Almost always, yes. HMRC treats most crypto activity as creating capital gains, and active trading can be taxed as income. We help clients calculate gains across exchanges and report them correctly.
What is the 60-day CGT property return?
If you sell a UK residential property as a UK resident and CGT is due, you must report and pay the estimated tax within 60 days of completion. We prepare and file the return for you, including calculating any Private Residence Relief.
Can you help with inheritance tax planning?
Yes. We work with families on lifetime gifting, trusts, business property relief and the right ownership structures, often alongside your solicitor or financial adviser. The earlier we start, the more options you have.
